In a March 25 tweet, Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation Mykhailo Fedorov stated that the government launched an initiative with nonfungible token (NFT) artwork depicting major moments from the Ukrainian perspective from February 24 onward.

These NFTs comprise events beginning at 5:45 AM local time on the day of the conflict. That was the same time when Russia confirmed a special military operation” in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

Based on the official NFT museum website at the time of writing, 54 NFTs of key moments in the war that happened between February 24 and February 26 will become available starting from March 30, with the money acquired from the sales in Ether (ETH) used “to support army and civilians.”

The artwork features various events and sources that are based on Twitter posts from the government officials, photos from news outlets, and the response of the global leaders “accompanied by personal reflections.”

Fedorov stated:

“While Russia uses tanks to destroy Ukraine, we rely on revolutionary blockchain tech. [The NFT museum is] the place to keep the memory of war. And the place to celebrate the Ukrainian identity and freedom.”

The NFT museum strongly says:

“We will never let any single day of this period disappear from the ledger of world history.”

Apart from raising funds for Ukraine’s military, the nonfungible token campaign in Ukraine appears to be targeted in opposition to Russian state media, which many people around the world have criticized for spreading lots of propaganda and misinformation, mainly in regards to the events in Ukraine following February 24.

Ukraine Museum Aims To Spread Truthful Information

The project confirmed that one of its goals was to spread truthful information among the digital community in the world.”

The government of Ukraine hinted at a nonfungible token project after cancelling the plans for an unspecified token airdrop that happened on March 3. The deputy minister of digital transformation Alex Bornyakov later stated in a report from the United Kingdom news outlet The Guardian that it wanted to launch an NFT collection that would later be “like a museum of the Russian-Ukrainian war.”

In that context, the Ministry of Digital Transformation teamed up with many members from the NFT platform Fair.xyz for the blockchain ecosystem of the project.

The Ukraine government has now accepted crypto donations directly via wallet addresses offered by the Ministry of Digital Transformation since February 26. Reports emerged on March 9 that many charities, government wallets, and relief organizations had received around $108 million in crypto to help humanitarian causes and military help in Ukraine.

So far, NFTs and cryptos appear to be helping humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. This has pushed many proponents to state that the war has come with a silver lining of helping NFTs and cryptos gain mainstream adoption.
