A free mint is coming soon for Ubisoft’s first original NFT game. Let us look at the Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles and its NFT plans.
On December 13, 2023, Ubisoft announced the Ethereum NFT mint date for its first original blockchain game titled Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, highlighting that its “Warlords” will be available on December 18.
Champions Tactics will offer a private mint for those that are added to its “darklist” starting at 6 am ET and will open the mint up to the public on Monday at 2 pm ET.
An NFT mint is effectively the primary sale for a project – but unlike most of the NFT launches, Ubisoft is promising that 8,000 Champions Tactics Warlord NFTs will be available free to Mint.
In this game, Warlords are pixel-style heroes with weapons and have been designated like the social media profile picture (PFP) NFTs. Collectors are needed only to pay Ethereum network gas fees to mint the NFTs, which can then be utilized as one’s account avatar in-game.
Based on Ubisoft, owning a Warlord NFT in a crypto wallet will give access to the game’s next mint for its playable in-game characters. Warlord NFT owners can mint five Champions Tactics characters freely at a later, yet-to-be-communicated date.
While the Warlords NFTs will be powered by the Ethereum blockchain, the Champions Tactics game itself gets deployed on the Ethereum-compatible Oasys chain. Up to 9,999 Warlords NFTs will be minted, with another 1,000 given out to the Oasys community and 999 held back by Ubisoft for different marketing initiatives and giveaways in the future.

It is known that Ubisoft has been experimenting with NFTs and blockchain technology. From the early Ghost Recon NFTs to releasing NFTs powered by its quirky Rabbids IP and Assassin’s Creed “smart collectibles,” Ubisoft has managed to explore the world of blockchain gaming.
Now, there is Champions Tactics. Champions Tactics is a new chapter in Ubisoft’s crypto plans. It is the studio’s first original Web3 game – which means it is being developed from scratch with NFTs front and center.
Not a lot has been revealed about Champions Tactics’ strategy and gameplay, but a few details have been announced. In the Grimoria world, there are up to seven factions ruled by battle-hungry warlords. Each faction has its own look, since there are zombie-like characters, medieval knights, and demonic characters.

This player-versus-player tactical RPG has a dark fantasy aesthetic and will offer characters that mainly resemble collectible tabletop game figurines. Champions Tactics was first announced in June 2023, and it is scheduled for release on PC in early 2024.
Ubisoft also confirmed “collaborations” with the non-fungible token gaming projects CyberKongz and Pixelmon in recent days, although the extent of each alliance is still unclear.

In every case, the project tweeted that it would be “supporting Champions Tactics with its upcoming Warlords mint and launch” and exploring more opportunities together. Ubisoft’s official game account quote-tweeted and shared both of these announcement tweets.
