The Tokenpuss NFT project enables gamers to collect and play with several unique nonfungible tokens representing platypus. Platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal that lives in Australia. This project aims to raise awareness about the mammal that is nearing extinction mainly due to the 2019 bush fires that devastated Australia and greatly damaged their habitat.
Apart from raising awareness, 10% of the profits will be sent directly towards Australian wildlife conservation. This new project has 10,000 unique NFTs known as ‘Tokenpuss’ that are scheduled to go live on December 12. The project developers said that they will lunch it in two stages.
At first, 8,000 NFTs will be made available by mid-December. In that context, the early adopters of these NFTs will see their minted Tokenpuss show up on OpenSea, which is the biggest NFT marketplace by trading volume.

A Tokenpuss is generally a cute creature that lives in the metaverse. It can be collected, traded, and used to play in the upcoming mobile game. All of the Tokenpuss NFTs have the same posture. However, their accessories, fur, and background vary in type and color.

Apart from the weekly giveaways to the Tokenpuss followers, every tenth of the first 100 owners is assured to get access to an airdrop. Additionally, each 500, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, 9,000 and 10,000th owner is guaranteed to get a unique piece of merchandise.

Saving The Platypus Species From Extinction
As already highlighted, the Tokenpuss NFT project contributes to enhancing the habitat and conditions for the platypus species. This species is evolutionarily and morphologically unique, and the team has decided to step in to save the only living species of the Ornithorhynchidae family. Platypus is one of the five extant species of monotremes.
Interestingly, the platypus lineage is believed to have originated almost 120 million years ago. The key characteristics of this species include waterproof fur, webbed feet, duck-like bill, and it uses electroreception to detect prey.
Sadly, the iconic Australian species is now facing many challenges affecting its long-term population viability. Since this species is endemic to Australia, the primary challenge relates to the extreme drought that affects most of eastern Australia. The arid climate affected the region the heaviest between 2017 and 2019. During that period, many wildfires devastated huge portions of Australia’s land.
In some areas, the fires and drought were the worst in more than 100 years, causing some incidents of platypus mortality and distress, as highlighted by zoos, landholders, and platypus conservation groups. The fires came after the severe drought and intensified worries about the condition of the platypuses living in the affected rivers.
The Tokenpuss NFT project wants to mitigate that problem. It has partnered with leading global organizations and influencers to raise some awareness about this issue.
