Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are taking over the crypto world. With the emergence of the metaverse, many believe that NFTs will compete with cryptos to power the virtual economy. In that context, one of Hollywood’s biggest and highly popular stars, Keanu Reeves has fully downplayed the metaverse.
The Hollywood megastar also laughed at the concept of NFTs through a video that is now making rounds across YouTube and Twitter. Keanu Reeves displayed his thoughts on the metaverse through an interview with The Verge.

As part of his interview with The Verge, Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss discussed the Matrix interactive experience that is scheduled for release as a part of the new Matrix film. When the concepts of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse came up, Keanu Reeves and his co-star just burst out laughing. He then went on to state that that the content is easily reproduced.
The Matrix actor also agreed with the idea of the ability to meet with a friend across the world in a metaverse casino. He said that such a concept is cool despite his general thoughts on NFTs and the metaverse.
His ideas changed when he jokingly questioned if he and Moss got some cut of the earnings. Nonetheless, despite these comments, Reeves is not entirely unfamiliar with blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies.
Keanu Reeves said that he owns some crypto that his friend bought him but is holding for the long term. He does not plan to sell or actively trade anything yet. They discussed a lot of issues and technologies in the interview but it seems like the participants are not ready to invest in nascent technologies.
Gaming was also a topic that came up in their discussions and they seemed to prefer the older versions of the gaming industry that do not feature any nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Reeves Overview
Reeves is a Canadian actor who was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He was raised in Toronto, Canada, and started his acting career in theaters and TV productions before his feature film debuted in Youngblood in 1986.
His breakout came in from the comedy film titled Bill & Ted where he starred alongside Alex Winter. The first film of the series was released in 1989, and the subsequent films came later. In between, there was a long list of films, most of which were successful.
Keanu Reeves’s role in The Matrix where he plays Neo is quite outstanding. The first film was launched in 1999. Interestingly, the next sequels came in 2003 (x2); and now the latest one has come in 2021 with The Matrix Resurrections.
Currently, he is categorized as one of the biggest and most loved Hollywood actors today. His work seems to appeal to a wide range of markets and demographics. From John Wick to Toy Story, he has featured in several genres of films. But, he chooses to remain cautious with matters regarding the nascent industries.
