On January 5, top Solana nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace Magic Eden faced an issue where unverified NFTs were showing up as part of the verified NFT collections. The platform has since resolved the issue and says that nobody will be able to purchase any unverified NFTs anymore. Magic Eden has also sent refunds of the investments to those affected.
Here is what know about this quick fix.
What Did The Magic Eden NFT Marketplace Refund Users?
Due to a technical issue, Magic Eden users purchased unverified NFTs. The source of the technical issue was confirmed to be a UI issue because of a new feature deployment. The Magic Eden developers have confirmed that the impact was contained to 25 unverified NFTs sold across some 4 collections.
These unverified NFTs randomly came up on the collection pages across various projects. Nonetheless, the team has since resolved the issue in a short turnaround time.
The UI issue pertains to Magic Eden’s recently launched Snappy Marketplace together with Pro Trade tools. The Snappy Marketplace tool enables users to explore all the newly listed and sold items. These items come up directly on the screen in real-time to offer a more seamless and desirable user experience.
Moreover, the Pro Trade tools are an exclusive toolkit for some collections on the platform. The tool does what Snappy Marketplace tools do, but with even more statistics to help collectors in their decision-making.
How Did Magic Eden Resolve The NFT Bug?
To resolve the problem, the team first disabled entry points to get rid of all new unverified NFTs. But that resolution just works to favor a few users and on select browsers. The platform then directed users to “hard reset” their browsers. Next, Magic Eden added an extra verification step to fully block similar kinds of attacks.
The team also adds that they are constantly monitoring the situation to make sure that this problem does not recur. Furthermore, the team also said that they will refund all affected users in case this problem persists.
