With the help of NFTs, a Czech noble family by the name of the House of Lobkowicz has unleashed and reinstalled more than fifty priceless works of art in their exhibition spaces in the Czech Republic. In October 2021, they developed and exhibited the Lobkowicz Collections as a component of a Non-Fungible Castle event.
Due to this event and the NFT sales, historical art pieces have now been restored. For now, the NFT holders are getting NFTs of famous artwork post-restoration as a reward for their support. The House of Lobkowicz has fully restored more than 50 pieces of art thanks to NFTs.
House of Lobkowicz NFTs Assist In Priceless Artwork Restoration
The noble family has chosen a distinct approach to web3. NFTs have been quite critical in restoring the House of Lobkowicz art pieces. They strive to involve their community and involve them in the procedure of restoration in the form of ‘cultural philanthropy’.
Due to this approach, they have created a community that cares mainly about art, culture, and preserving historical items. Interestingly, they set the price of every NFT based on the cost of restoration.
The Non-Fungible Castle NFT Collection
The House of Lobkowicz developed three NFTs to make their massive restoration project possible. First, there was the Proof of Patronage NFTs, priced to match the restoration costs. Secondly, Digital Explorations offered an insight into the way digital technology can boost and protect art.
For that, music, x-ray, animation, and infrared assisted in the showing of the House of Lobkowicz art in a new light. Eventually, the third series of NFTs offers a creative response to the original artworks by modern artists.
The House of Lobkowicz NFT project was a major success, showing the power of nonfungible tokens. In the future, we may see similar projects focusing on cultural philanthropy.
Due to the success of the House of Lobkowicz NFTs, the noble family has confirmed that it is releasing a new collection in November.
Web3 Philanthropy And Historical Art
Many historic and culturally important artworks are among the pieces that are now fully restored. This includes one painting that features in Wes Anderson’s award-winning film The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), A Wild Boar in a Landscape (1694), and Portrait of Doña Margarita Teresa Infanta of Spain, Archduchess of Austria and Empress (1662–1664). All of them are now on exhibition at the grand Nelahozeves Castle.
Maybe the most challenging restoration project was the Chinese Belvedere. It is a room in the Lobkowicz Palace comprising elaborate murals and Art dating back to 1906.
What Comes Next For House Of Lobkowicz NFTs?
Due to the Non-Fungible Castle experiment’s success, there are various plans for a new project to continue connecting the gap between the traditional art world and web3. Moreover, due to the NFT collection, there is now a clear example of NFTs restoring precious art that others can use.
Moving on forward, the House of Lobkowicz will:
“Aim to explore how they can use blockchain technology to rediscover, share, and preserve cultural identity.”
The second edition of the Non-Fungible Castle is scheduled for November 4-5. Moreover, the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague Castle is set to host a free NFT exhibition from October 27 to November 14.
